The wheel bearing is a double roller,cartridge type with the hub containg the wheel studs,pressed into the bearing. There is a vacuum actuated system that works the front end and if the rod or vacuum goes bad and the system sees that the front end didnt engage this will also give an error.

My 2 fuses that were blown were probably caused by overloading when I first tried to use the 4x4 while it was frozen out. I would start at the transfer case relays first. Now the axle can be released from the hub,but leave the other end of the axle in the trans,just set off to the side out of the way. The back wheels will not kick in.
The All Wheel Drive got me through several snow storms with no problem. My problem ended up being one of those relays being bad. There are also vacuum switches on the drivers side strut tower. It looked and drove like a new car. Many are even factory certified! Any suggestions as to what I can try??? The reason is you have to remove the cv axle nut and axle out of the way before removing the bearing and hub. It took me quite a wile to figure it all out but the transfer case has a little motor and some contacts inside the end of the transfer case housing. Hang on, wrote one reader: That would add up to almost 240,000 miles. Eveything else I love about it. Check your manual and see what makes it go into 4X4. If I had to recommend anything it would have to be a automatic tail gait with a push button on the remote, but that is it.
