I feel more secure with the extra weight. It only happens when the vehicle is moving, usually under acceleration load. I guess time will tell with this Explorer. It's a smooth ride and can't even tell it's running when idle. Other than that, it's been nickle and dime stuff. Eddie Bauer models have satin-finish 17-inch wheels this year.
The layout of the controls and gauges is very well done. While the current Explorer is a vast improvement over its predecessor, it competed in a market with many more choices. While the V6 has plenty of power when we need it, it sure sounds like it's working awfully hard. Both the Eddie Bauer and Limited have fog lamps that improve visibility in inclement weather, while crystalline halogen headlamps provide excellent nighttime visibility. There have been no major problems. The new Explorer platform is used by the four-door model only.
